As the populations in Gloucester, Massachusetts continued to increase, so did the size of government and the accumulation of records for more than another century. Then, in 1987, two residents called the attention of the Mayor to the conditions of the priceless records stored in |
| over-flowing vaults, largely inaccessible and unprotected. Some records had been re-located away from City Hall. In turn, the Mayor created the Gloucester Archives Committee, composed of volunteers, to help restore order.
Gloucester Massachusetts - Historical Time-Line 1000-1999, compiled by author, Mary Ray, founding member of Gloucester Archives Commmittee and Edited by Sarah V. Dunlap.
